About Us

Nadaya Cross - Nadaya is the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Coordinator who works with TWU's deaf and hard of hearing students to overcome language barriers to access and succeed in their education. Nadaya believes in the right to access course materials, campus activities and students services in deaf peoples’ native language, American Sign Language or written English. Nadaya strives to build a thriving community between deaf and hard of hearing students with their hearing peers. Nadaya is a certified Sign Language Interpreter and holds an associate degree in Sign Language Interpretation from Tarrant County College. She is currently enrolled at Regent University where she is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business with a concentration in Management. In her free time, Nadaya enjoys binge watching TV with her husband, playing with her two dogs and knitting all the things!

Crystal Hill - Crystal joined TWU Disability Services for Students in July 2018. Prior to joining TWU, Crystal served as Director of the Disability Resource Center at The University of Central Arkansas (UCA) for 18 years. Crystal holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Arkansas. Crystal is co-founder of College Bound Arkansas, a post-secondary transition camp for rising juniors, seniors, and incoming college freshman. Crystal currently serves as Director-at-Large on the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) Board of Directors and formerly chaired AHEAD’s Race, Ethnicity, Diversity, and Disability Special Interest Group. She has served as an adjunct instructor within the Psychology Department of the University of Central Arkansas, where she taught general psychology. She is currently enrolled at the University of Arkansas where she is pursuing a doctoral degree in Public Policy with a higher education specialization.

Katy Holland - Katy joined TWU Disability Services for Students in May 2000.  Katy has served students with disabilities for 18 years and has held her current position of Assistant Director since August 2006. Prior to joining DSS, Katy worked in the Registrar’s Office and Admissions while completing both a bachelor's degree in Public Service and a master's degree in Family Studies. During her tenure at TWU, Katy has served on numerous committees involving regulation and accreditation revolving around ADA compliance and SACS. Aside from committee service, Katy has also served as an adjunct instructor within the Department of Family Sciences where she taught Diversity in Contemporary Families as well as assisting in courses such as Family Sexuality, Statistics in Family Research and Family Theory. She currently enjoys her non-academic life with hobbies such as photography, painting rocks and keeping up with her furry, four legged children.

Trayce Hudy - Trayce retired from TWU in June of 2014 after 32 years of service and after receiving both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from TWU. She served in several capacities and departments at TWU including the Registrars/Admissions Office, Graduate School, as Paralegal for the General Counsel, and finally ended her career by serving her last 14 years as Chief of Staff/Executive Assistant to the Chancellor and President for the former Chancellor and President, Dr. Ann Stuart. After a two year hiatus and seeking a part-time position outside of Administration, she joined the Disability Services staff in May of 2016. During her free time, Trayce enjoys creating traditional sterling silver jewelry as well as unique pieces such as charms of many of the buildings at TWU (Little Chapel, ACT Building, Ann Stuart Science Complex, etc.). Additionally, she designs detailed charms of Texas Courthouses including the Denton County Courthouse. She enjoys her position in DSS and especially enjoys interacting with DSS students.  

Mary Potts - Mary joined TWU Disability Services for Students  in October 2018. She earned a bachelor's degree in Music from Abilene Christian University in May and is currently a graduate student at TWU, working on a master's degree in Music Therapy. In the future, Mary would like to work with Alzheimer and dementia patients and open her own private practice. During her free time, Mary enjoys performing with the TWU Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble and baking with her two cats!

Jo Ann Reeves - Jo Ann became a part of the TWU Disability Services for Students team in February 2016 as the Denton Coordinator. Previous experience for Jo Ann includes serving as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the state of Texas and Case Manager for a tertiary (community re-entry) traumatic brain injury rehabilitation facility.  Jo Ann holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a master's degree in Rehabilitation Studies from the University of North Texas. Jo Ann is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, and an active member of the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD). She served as Treasurer on the Executive Board and Chairperson for Rewards and Recognition Committee for TWU’s Staff Council from 2017 to 2018.

Barbara Reinke - Barbara Reinke has been with Disability Services as a part-time secretary since January 2017.  Throughout her career, Barbara has worked with organizations across a wide range of industries.  In supporting the office's professional staff, she helps students with disabilities in the application process.  Barbara has a bachelor's degree in Management from the University of Texas.  When off campus you can find her volunteering at Immaculate Catholic School or working on any number of creative projects with her granddaughter Sammi.

Kristie Sekmistrz - Kristie joined TWU Disability Services for Students in February 2017 as the first on-site coordinator for the Houston campus.  Prior to joining TWU, Kristie worked as vocational rehabilitation counselor for seven years with the State of Texas.  In this position, she assisted people with disabilities in completion of education and training as well as obtaining and maintaining competitive employment in their chosen fields. In addition, she served as one of the subject matter experts on autism and employment for the Houston region and served on the Regional Developmental Disabilities Team to improve the quality of services provided to people with developmental disabilities. Kristie earned a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences/Pre-Med Studies from Michigan State University. She holds a master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL.  She is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and has been an active member of the National Rehabilitation Association as well as the Texas Rehabilitation Association.  She is a current member of AHEAD (Association on Higher Education and Disability).

Sharla Taylor - Sharla joined DDS in January 2019.  Prior to joining TWU, Sharla worked at several state agencies. Sharla begin her career working at Travis State School and her last job held at the state was working as a Vocational  Rehabilitation Counselor at Texas Workforce Commission Vocational Services. Sharla also worked as Acting Area Manager, Team Lead, Subject Matter expert in Traumatic Brain Injury, and Kidney Disease. Finally she has worked with the North Lake Community College to develop relationship with their Disability Office. Sharla has a bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Texas in Austin and a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from University of North Texas in Denton. Sharla is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. She has worked with non-profit organizations and agencies to educate about them about disabilities and mental health issues in our community.
