TWU taps NY faculty leader as College of Business dean

Texas Woman’s University has selected Rama Yelkur, a longtime faculty leader, professor, accomplished marketing and international business expert and board member — with a strong background in long-range planning, community outreach and fundraising — to head the College of Business. She begins her duties as dean on June 1.

TWU alum’s booming business venture grew out of class project

Wouldn’t it be great to have a cocktail that was already mixed and made with fresh ingredients – and served in a really cool plastic container that would be safe by the pool?

Turns out, that concoction of thoughts was the basis for a sweet business idea that first earned TWU alumna Merrilee Kick an “A” on her Executive MBA capstone project and led to a highly successful venture, BuzzBallz/Southern Champion, which has become the only woman-owned Distillery/Winery/Brewery combo in the United States.

TWU faculty member elected Prospanica DFW chapter president

Maria Gomez Albrecht, PhD/DBA, an adjunct faculty member in the TWU College of Business, was elected Prospanica DFW chapter president for the 2021 term. Prospanica DFW is part of a nationwide nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and advocating for the growth of Hispanic MBAs and business professionals in corporate America.

Up and Away: TWU marketing alumna pursues long-held dream of flying

Texas Woman’s alumna Shakar Soltani, BBA ’17, has always been fascinated with flying and the airlines for as long as she can remember, but as a minority female, she didn’t dare dream that she could be a pilot herself. But that changed, and Soltani is now on her way to taking flight while bringing much-needed representation to her chosen field.
