Waivers and Exemptions

Tuition Exemptions

Blind/Deaf: Provide to the Registrar's Office certification from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission of status as a deaf person, or the Texas Workforce Commission of status as a blind person. Student must be degree-seeking, and submit the additional following: a written statement of the purpose that indicates the certificate or degree program to be pursued; high school diploma or its equivalent; and a letter of recommendation from the high school principal of the student who is blind or deaf, or from a public official, or from some other responsible person who knows the student who is blind or deaf and is willing to serve as a reference.

Child of Deployed Military: Provide to the Registrar's Office evidence of a parent who is a member of the U.S. Armed Forces and evidence the parental service member of the armed forces is deployed on active duty for the engaging in a combative military operation outside the United States. The student must also be a Texas resident entitled to pay the resident tuition rate. 

Child of Nurse Preceptor: Provide to the Registrar's Office the completed Preceptor Exemption application and proof of eligibility from the Nursing department through which the Preceptor has (or had) a written preceptor agreement. 

Child of Nursing Faculty: Provide to the Registrar's Office a completed application and provide proof of parent's employment as Nursing faculty.

Concurrent Enrollment: Provide to the Registrar's Office enrollment verification from second institution. Both one at time of waiver of application and another submitted after the Census date of the term.

Disabled Fire/Peace Officer: Certification letter must be submitted to either the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board or Texas Public Institution of Higher Education depending on the date of injury.

Disabled Peace Officer Dependent: Provide to the Registrar's Office a certification letter from parent's prior employer on official letterhead.

Fire Fighter: Provide to the Registrar's Office proof of employment as a paid firefighter, and enroll in the courses of a Fire Science Curriculum.

Foster Child: (Currently or Formerly in Foster Care) Provide to the Registrar's Office proof of eligibility Form 1810 from the Department of Family Protective Services (TDFPS) of eligibility.  

Nurse Preceptor: Provide to the Registrar's Office the Preceptor Exemption application and proof of eligibility from the Nursing department through which the Preceptor has (or had) a written preceptor agreement.

Peace Officer Exemption: Provide to the Registrar's Office proof of employment as a paid police officer, and enroll in the courses of a law enforcement or criminal justice curriculum.

Public Servant (Deceased): Provide to the Registrar's Office a certification letter from parent's prior employer on official letterhead.

Senior Citizen Audit: Provide to the Registrar's Office proof of age 65 and older.

Senior Citizen Rate: Provide to the Registrar's Office proof of age 65 and older.

Valedictorian: Provide to the Registrar's office a copy of the document issued by the high school indicating they are the highest ranking high school graduate.

Tuition Waivers

Citizen of Mexico: Provide to Registrar's Office proof of Mexico citizenship, copy of I-20

Concurrent Enrollment: Provide to the Registrar's Office proof of concurrent enrollment at the second college or university accompanied by a statement that you are seeking the concurrent enrollment waiver. 

Graduate Assistant: The Graduate School will provide to Registrar's Office proof of Graduate Assistantship completed by Academic Department and Graduate School.

Last Semester Graduate Student: Thesis and Dissertation students only Provide a completed Request for Reduced Tuition form, approved by Major Professor, to the Graduate School.

Tuition Scholarship: The Financial Aid office will provide to the Registrar's Office certification of eligibility.

Economic Development: Provide to the Registrar's Office proof of employment at eligible company and letter of intent to establish Texas residency. For a list of eligible companies, please check the College for All Texans page by clicking the waiver title.

Faculty: Provide to the Registrar's Office, prior to the time of enrollment, a statement certifying employment of self, parent, or spouse as a teacher or professor in a Texas public college or university in at least a half-time capacity on a regular monthly salaried basis.  Such statement should come from the director of personnel or a designated representative of the employing institution. 

Non-Resident Nursing Faculty: Provide a completed application form to the Office of the Registrar. 

Tuition Assistance Program (TAP): Employee must complete and submit the TAP application and supporting documentation (if applicable) to Human Resources at least one week prior to the last day of Regular Registration. 

Other Tuition Types

Oklahoma Rate: Provide to the Registrar's Office 2 Forms of documentation verifying current residence in Oklahoma (i.e. Driver's license, bills, etc.)

Distance Education Rate: Contact the Office of Teaching and Learning with Technology.

Deadline

Students should submit the specified documentation for their waiver or exemption no later than the census date for the term in which it is being requested.  Please see the current academic calendar for census dates.
