SLIS welcomes new faculty

With every fall semester comes new beginnings for students, this year more so than others. However, students are not the only ones to experience change this time of year. The School of Library and Information Studies is happy to announce four new members of the faculty and recognize another who joined in the spring of 2020.

Franklin Receives 2020 Barnett Service Award

The Ann Barnett Service Award recognizes exemplary service to the principles and purposes of librarianship and professional education as demonstrated by sensitivity and responsiveness to people’s needs. This year's recipient actually had the opportunity to interact with the award's namesake, Ann Barnett, during her time in the TWU School of Library & Information Studies.

 

Sheppard and Canales Receive 2021 SLIS Alumni Awards

April Sheppard is the recipient of the 2021 Ann Barnett Service Award while Beatrice Canales received the S. Janice Kee Continuing Education Award, both presented by the Texas Woman’s University School of Library & Information Studies.

Rodriguez and Stone Receive 2020 Kee Awards

April Stone and Rosemarie Rodriguez are this year's recipients of the S. Janice Kee Continuing Education Award. These $500 awards were established in 1987 by native Texan and TWU alumna Sarah Janice Kee (1908-1998) for graduates who seek financial support for continuing education.

 

TWU alumna named top 10 librarian in US

The American Library Association recently named Texas Woman’s alumna Tracie Walker-Reed (BS ’90, MLS ’07) as one of only 10 librarians nationwide to receive its annual I Love My Librarian! Award. The award recognizes lasting contributions of dynamic librarians working in public, school, college, community college and university libraries.
