Practicum
LS 5843 Practicum Course/Field Experience
- A 3-credit-hour course (LS 5843) required for graduation
- A 120 hour unpaid, professionally supervised internship in an approved school, public, academic or special library appropriate to SLIS coursework and area of specialization
- A 160 hour unpaid professionally supervised internship in an approved Texas school library for all candidates seeking Texas School Librarian Certification
- An opportunity for TWU SLIS students to apply academic knowledge, to practice newly acquired skills, and to perfect a professional manner
Practicum Application Deadlines
Fall Semester Practicum โ July 1st
Spring Semester Practicum โ November 1st
Summer Semester Practicum โ April 1st
Practicum Waiver
A Practicum Waiver may be approved for students employed as a fulltime librarian for a minimum of one full year in a public, academic or special library and demonstrating professional level duties and competencies. To meet guidelines of the Texas Education Agency (TEA), candidates seeking Texas School Librarian Certification are not eligible for a Practicum Waiver.
