Harrod: Rabbits, penguins, and the cycle of censorship

In 1958, Garth Williams published a picture book called "The Rabbits’ Wedding." It portrayed a white rabbit and a black rabbit falling in love and getting married. The book was attacked by politicians and groups that were opposed to what they saw as a depiction of interracial marriage, and it was banned at the time in Alabama libraries.

Zimmerman joins SLIS faculty

Jeng highlights Asian Americans in Denton County

Ling Hwey Jeng, PhD, the director of the School of Library and Information Studies at TWU, spoke at a Denton Parks and Recreation event to start Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. 

SLIS announces 2022 alumni awards

The School of Library and Information Studies celebrated its alumni at the annual Texas Library Association Conference last week. This year, June Johnson (2012), Delaney Daly (2020), and Amber Wessies (2019) were recognized with alumni awards. 

SLIS Director conducts visiting lectureship in Taiwan

Ling Hwey Jeng, School of Library and Information Studies Director, conducted a visiting lectureship on community informatics at National Chengchi University in Taiwan. During the lectureship Jeng presented four lectures to master’s and doctoral students and gave speeches at the National Central Library and the National Chengchi University Library.
