Jessica Burchfield, Director, Scholar Programs

Hi, I'm Jessica! As a two-time TWU graduate with degrees in psychology and counseling psychology, this university has been home for many years. My own experience as a Pioneer shaped who I am, and it's incredibly meaningful to now help create that same sense of belonging and opportunity for the next generation of students.

As director of Scholar Programs, I have the privilege of working with some of TWU's incredible student leaders, supporting them as they grow academically, personally, and professionally. I believe scholarships are about so much more than financial support—they're about building community, creating opportunities, and helping students become the kind of leaders who make a lasting impact.

Whether we're celebrating successes, navigating challenges, or simply talking through what's comes next, my goal is for every student to know they have someone in their corner.

When you stop by the Scholar Programs office, you'll usually find me connecting with students, planning new opportunities, or brainstorming ways to make our scholar community even stronger. I can't wait to get to know you!

Samantha Sorensen, Ed.D., Associate Director, Scholar Programs

Hi, I’m Sam! There is nothing I love more than getting to know each of our students individually and helping them feel right at home here. I truly believe that college is a beautiful season for self-discovery, and I am so excited to help our scholars discover their strengths and develop the next generation of leaders. 

As associate director of Scholar Programs, I am the primary scholarship coordinator for President’s Leadership Council and Legacy Leaders, but you can find me supporting the operations of the office, and engaging with scholars across all programs. 

With degrees in elementary education as well as higher education leadership, policy studies, and administration, my career has always been rooted in the power of learning and community. When I came to TWU a little over two years ago, I immediately felt the magic of the university. I knew right away that this was a community I wanted to be a part of, and that feeling has only grown stronger every day since. 

For me, being here is all about sharing my love for the community and ensuring that every scholar feels seen, supported, and valued. Whether we are discussing long-term goals or just catching up on how the week is going, my door is always open. 

When you stop by the Scholar Programs office, you’ll usually find me keeping up with spreadsheets, diving into ways to better support our scholars, or chatting with students about their journeys. I am so excited to be a part of your journey and watching you thrive at TWU!
