FAQ

Does the Write Site edit or proofread?
The writing center is not a proofreading or editing service. The consultants help you become a better writer by identifying areas of concern in your writing, explaining writing techniques, and making suggestions for revision. Writing consultants will never write on or "correct" your paper.

I forgot my password for WCOnline! What do I do?
Reset your password by clicking the link below the log-in button. Enter the email address you used to register and click "Change Password." If you can’t remember the email address you used, call the Write Site (940) 898-2341 and we’ll help you out!

I keep trying to log into WCOnline, but it won’t let me!
Your account may have been disabled. If you have four "no-call, no-show" appointments in a semester, WCOnline automatically disables your account for the rest of the semester.

I had an OWL appointment scheduled on a day when TWU was closed because of snow/sleet/ice/hail/apocalypse. My paper never got reviewed. What happened?
When TWU’s Denton campus is closed, the Write Site is closed. You must log in and reschedule your OWL appointment for a time after TWU reopens.

Can I call someone and talk about my paper over the phone?
At the time, we don’t offer phone appointments. If you are unable to come to the brick and mortar writing center, we over two kinds of online appointments: OWL and OWLive. Get information about those kinds of appointments.

Can I use the computers and print in the Write Site?
The computers and printers in the Write Site can be used during your appointment. If you need to check email or do homework, please do so in the open access labs located in ASB, MCL, the Student Union, and the Library.

Can you help me with Turnitin.com?
The Write Site staff doesn’t have access to a Turnitin.com account, so we can’t assist you with the actual service. We can help you address the issues identified on your Turnitin report. (For example, if you are worried about a high plagiarism percentage, we can help you with citing sources.) For more information about Turnitin, see the Library’s Turnitin FAQ. Any other Turnitin issues or questions should be directed to your instructor.

My instructor told me I can drop off my paper at the Write Site and pick it up after it was "corrected." Is this true?
Nope. If you come to the Write Site for an appointment, you are expected to be a present and active participant in your own learning. The Write Site does offer revision suggestions via email through our Online Writing Lab (OWL). Get information about OWL appointments.

I came to the Write Site during finals week and no one was there. What gives?!
Our writing consultants are students, too. The Write Site is closed during finals week to give them time to study and take exams, so they can keep making stellar grades. But, don’t worry! The Write Site opens on the first day of class each semester, so they’ll be back.

Can the Write Site help me with a lab report for a science class?
We can try! We can help with global revision and mechanics, but we recommend that you visit TWU’s Science Learning Resource Center for help with subject matter.

If I get help at the Write Site, can you guarantee me a passing grade?
The staff is not allowed to make a qualitative judgment on your work. Your instructor is the authority when it comes to determining grades.

How do I attach my paper to my OWL or OWLive appointment?

There are two ways to attach a file to an existing appointment.

Method 1:

After you make your appointment, you will receive a message stating: “Your appointment was successfully added. If you would like to attach a file to this appointment, click here.”

Click on the "click here" link to attach your file. You will receive a confirmation email notifying you that you have attached a file.

If you choose to wait and attach your file later, you will have to use the second method.

Method 2:

Click on the folder icon in the top left corner of the homepage. This folder is different from the “Help” button. This folder allows you to attach a file to an already existing appointment.

After you click on the icon, it will bring up a screen that shows you all of your existing appointments. Click the one you want to attach a file to, select “Choose File,” and then “Upload File.” A confirmation screen will appear once you click “Upload File,” and you will also receive a confirmation email.

Who should I contact if I have a question/complaint/compliment/suggestion?
