FAQ

Does Write Site edit or proofread?
No. Consultants help you be a better writer by identifying areas of concern in your writing, explaining writing techniques and making suggestions for revision. Writing consultants do not write or correct your paper.

I had an OWL appointment scheduled on a day when TWU was closed because of snow/sleet/ice/hail/apocalypse. My paper never got reviewed. What happened?
When TWU’s Denton campus is closed, Write Site is closed. Login and reschedule your OWL appointment for a time after TWU reopens.

Can I call someone and talk about my paper over the phone?
We don’t offer phone appointments. If you are unable to attend in-person, we offer online appointments OWL and OWLive. Get information about those kinds of appointments.

Can I use the computers and print at Write Site?
The computers and printers in Write Site can be used during your appointment. If you need to check email or do homework, please do so in the open access labs located in ASB, MCL, the Student Union, and the Library.

Can you help me with Turnitin.com?
No. Write Site staff do not have access to a Turnitin.com account. We can help you address the issues identified on your Turnitin report. For more information about Turnitin, see the Library’s Turnitin FAQ. Any other Turnitin issues or questions should be directed to your instructor.

My instructor told me I can drop off my paper at Write Site and pick it up after it was corrected. Is this true?
No. If you come to Write Site for an appointment, you are expected to be a present and active participant in your own learning. Write Site offers revision suggestions via email through our Online Writing Lab (OWL). Get information about OWL appointments.

I came to Write Site during finals week and no one was there. What gives?!
Write Site runs on an alternate schedule with VERY limited hours during Finals Week. We recommend you make an appointment for the week before.

Can Write Site help me with a lab report for a science class?
We can try! We can help with global revision and mechanics, but we recommend that you visit TWU’s Science Learning Resource Center for help with subject matter.

If I get help at Write Site, can you guarantee me a passing grade?
No. The staff is not allowed to make a qualitative judgment on your work. Your instructor is the authority when it comes to determining grades.

How do I attach my paper to my OWL or OWLive appointment?
Once you have made an appointment you will be able to use the Chat function of Penji to upload your paper.

Please do not contact writing consultants via Chat after an appointment has closed. If you need further assistance, you will need to make a new appointment with a writing consultant.

Note: If you are unable to load a paper, you may not have an appointment. Make sure you have confirmed your scheduled appointment BEFORE attempting to upload your paper.

Please note: Appointment Policies:
For every 50-minute appointment, writing consultants can review five double-spaced pages.
If they feel the need, students can and should make multiple appointments for the same paper.
Students can request assistance for up to five hours a week.

We strongly encourage face-to-face sessions, if possible, for the best results.
