Wellbeing Society

Your path to growth, connection and success.

At Texas Woman's, we believe students flourish best when their whole wellbeing is nurtured—not just during exam season, but year‐round. Our new Wellbeing Society is a university-supported community dedicated to helping every student grow across the many dimensions of wellbeing defined by the ACHA model.

What is the ACHA wellbeing model?

The ACHA’s “Well-being Assessment: Pathways and Outcomes” defines a set of wellbeing dimensions, along with pathways (skills, supports, environments) and outcomes (how well students are doing) that universities can influence

Some dimensions are directly measurable and scored (like Academic Engagement or Positive Coping), others are foundational or contextual (like Financial Resources or Basic Security Needs). The Society draws on the full model to design its programs. The Wellbeing Society will align activities that address the following:

  • Happiness
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Loneliness
  • Social anxiety
  • Life satisfaction
  • Self-esteem
  • Optimism
  • Positive coping
  • Belonging
  • Meaning
  • Purpose
  • Activity engagement
  • Academic engagement

Although people often treat Meaning and Purpose as synonymous, they are distinct constructs. People need purpose to feel like their lives have meaning, and without a sense of purpose, they often struggle with their sense of meaning in life.

What the Wellbeing Society Offers

To realize these supports in practice, the Wellbeing Society will:

  • Maintain a Balanced Annual Calendar: To focus on different dimensions at different times of year.

  • Peer-Led and Inclusive Events: Students from diverse backgrounds will help plan and lead events that reflect student needs.

  • Workshops & Skill-Building Sessions: Like time management, resilience, identifying values, setting goals.

  • Ongoing Peer Support / Mentoring: Trained peer mentors to check in, share strategies, and connect with each other.

  • Partnerships with University Services: Mental health, academic advising, career services, financial aid.

  • Feedback, Assessment & Growth: Using surveys (e.g., adapted from the ACHA model) to see how students are doing; adjusting programs accordingly.

  • Safe & Welcoming Community Spaces: Both physical and virtual for students who prefer or need remote connection.

Why Join the Wellbeing Society?

  • To gain new skills that support all areas of your life—not just academic success, but emotional health, sense of meaning, friendships, optimism, and future readiness.

  • To feel more connected: lowering loneliness, social anxiety; increasing belonging.

  • To access peer and staff support in a non-judgmental community.

  • To have a voice in shaping the university’s wellbeing culture.

  • Because thriving isn’t a destination—it’s built every day.
