Student Learning Outcome (SLO) Criterion for Success

Assessment Measure 1: Practicum Final Evaluation, Professional Competence Assessment

Evaluation of student performance in a library setting during the practicum experience. Broad categories of skills assessed include: Professionalism, Information Resources, Organization of Recorded Knowledge and Information, User Services/Reference, Independent Project/Research, Continuing Education, and Administration/Management.

Rated average of level 2 or higher across all skill categories (Meets Expectations or Exceeds Expectations) 100% (N = 170)

Assessment Measure 2: SLIS Student Survey, Professional Competence Assessment

Self-assessment of professional knowledge and skills by graduating students. Students rate their perceived level of competence in each of the following broad categories of skills: Professionalism, Information Resources, Organization of Recorded Knowledge and Information, User Services/Reference, Independent Project/Research, Continuing Education, and Administration/Management.

Rated average of level 2 or higher across all skill categories (Developing or Proficient) 100% (N = 21)

Assessment Measure 3: Practicum Portfolio assignment

Elements assessed: Portfolio clearly addressed all the goals set in the Action Plan; Portfolio included sufficient evidence to demonstrate how goals were met.

Elements assessed: Reflection described how the library setting (both environment and human resources) influences students' positive practicum experience as well as challenges; Reflection articulated how students’ practicum experience can facilitate their future professional development.

Assessment Measure 2: Practicum Professional Development Plan assignment

Elements assessed: Professional Development Plan identified 3-6 goals for professional/career growth; Professional Development Plan described appropriate strategies to achieve growth in the identified goals.

SLO 3: Students will be able to effectively employ current information and communication technologies to meet information needs in library settings.

Student Learning Outcome Criterion for Success 2024-2025 Outcomes

Assessment Measure 1: Practicum Final Evaluation, Technological Knowledge and Skills

Evaluation of student performance in a library setting during the practicum experience on the Technological Knowledge and Skills competency. Students are evaluated on 5 technology competency areas.

Rated average of level 2 or higher across all skill categories (Meets Expectations or Exceeds Expectations) 100% (N = 167)

Assessment Measure 2: SLIS Student Survey, Technological Knowledge and Skills

Self-assessment of Technological Knowledge and Skills by graduating students. Students rate themselves on 5 technology competency areas.
