Frequently Asked Questions

When may I move in?

Move-in for the 2024-2025 academic year will occur August 20 – 22.

You will move in at a specific time on your day. The move-in schedule will be posted here, as well as sent to your TWU.edu email, as we approach move-in week.

May I move in early or late?

Only students who are required to be here for a TWU sponsored program or activity will be able to arrive early. You may move in late, although you may miss some valuable orientation programming. Please notify the Department of Housing & Dining if you will be arriving on or after Friday, August 23. Residents must claim their room by 5 PM on the first day of classes, August 26.

What if I get to my residence hall after hours?

Go to the front desk associated with your residence hall or community and they will assist you. If you arrive very late, you will need to contact the staff person on call. Follow the instructions posted on the main door of the residence hall/apartment office.

Is Wi-Fi available on campus?

TWU has free campus Wi-Fi. Go to the settings on your phone and select the Wi-Fi network twunet.

Where do I go on Move-in Day?

Go directly to the building/Residence Hall you were assigned. Signage and volunteers will be placed all over campus to direct you. Hall staff will also be at your building to welcome you.

What will parking be like on Move-in day?

Please check Parking for a campus map, general directions and residence hall street addresses. Vehicles should be pulled into the assigned lot, unpacked, and moved to the permanent lot. Volunteers and signs will be available on Move-in day to guide you to the appropriate parking lot.

How do I get a parking permit?

The parking permit can be purchased online or in person from the Parking Office.

It is the responsibility of students to obey the parking rules and regulations for the TWU campuses. Complete parking rules and regulations and a parking map are available for your reference by visiting the TWU Parking page.

How do I move my belongings?

Students living in Guinn, Stark, and Parliament will be moved by University and Student Services. Movers will unload their items and take them to their rooms.

Students living in Lowry Woods and Off-Campus Housing will be responsible for moving their own items.

As the parent/relative/friend who assisted with moving in, can I spend the night in my student's residence hall?

We ask that families make other arrangements after the move. Hotels have been provided for your information. See our list of preferred hotels for more information.

What should I do if I have more than one vehicle on Move-in day?

You may bring all of your vehicles into the unloading area but they all must be moved once they are unpacked.

What will I be expected to do after I move in?

Once you move in, you will begin Pioneer Camp activities.

Can I bring my pet?

It is prohibited to bring dogs, cats or other pets inside any University-controlled buildings, except for service and/or approved emotional support animals. All animals must be registered and approved by the Disability Services for Students Office.

How do I pay my housing bill?

The cost of your student housing is added to your overall student account. Information regarding payment options can be found on the webpage for the Bursar's Office.

How will I get my meals?

The Dining Hall will serve brunch and dinner on August 20. Friends and family assisting their student within move-in may dine for free in the Dining Hall on August 20! For more information, including dining hours and locations, go to Pioneer Kitchen.

How does the mail work?

Each residence hall has its own unique address where residents may receive mail and packages from official carriers. It is the resident’s responsibility to ensure their address is listed correctly. Upon move-out a resident is responsible for setting up their own mail forwarding.

What if I need disability accommodations?

Students requesting services must complete an application form and provide Disability Services with verification of a disability. Once registered, students are eligible to receive appropriate accommodations through the university. Students should register with the office of Disability Services for Students as early as possible to help ensure that all accommodations are in place by the beginning of the semester.

Can I loft my bed?

Having a lofted bed provides additional floor space in your room. Only trained TWU Housing staff may change your bed configuration to be lofted. If you are moving in for the fall semester, you may submit your loft request starting July 15. Requests received before July 15 will not be approved. Requests will be addressed in the order received, some requests for fall may not be completed before move-in, and requests are completed based on staff availability.

To request a lofted bed, submit a work request at https://twu.edu/fmc/. Be sure to specify the correct building (i.e. “Parliament East” is Mary’s Hall Parliament Village). The Repair Center is HOUSING-DENTON CAMPUS. Be clear in your request regarding how high you want your mattress to be from the floor. Additional configuration requests may result in a charge. You will receive an email confirmation that your work request was submitted. Please do not submit additional requests.
