COPE, Houston ISD partnership hits stride

The College of Professional Education (COPE) has been working diligently to support Houston ISD’s Grow Your Own efforts to turn paraprofessionals into bachelor’s-educated certified teachers. Starting with a $500,000 grant award paired with TWU’s Zero Tuition Guarantee, the college has not only been recruiting students for the spring semester but already educating enrolled students this fall.

Houston ISD awards TWU $500K to produce high-needs teachers

Texas has a teacher shortage, and the College of Professional Education (COPE) at Texas Woman’s University is diligently working to address it in innovative, accessible ways. This fall, TWU will team with Houston ISD to guide nearly 100 teaching assistants toward bachelor’s degrees and Texas teaching certificates through $500,000 in grants aimed at producing educators from the district.

Professor supports teachers of Ukrainian refugees

Bombs fell. Tanks rolled. Soldiers marched. The war in Ukraine began in February 2022, scattering refugees across the globe. Nearly 13 million Ukrainian refugees have crossed into neighboring Poland since the war began — mostly women and children. They are children who don’t speak Polish, but mainly Russian and Ukrainian. Children who still need to learn, who need school, who need teachers.
