Training Requirements
All research team members (including but not limited to PIs, research assistants, faculty advisors, and staff) conducting research with human subjects at TWU are required to successfully complete approved training in the protection of human research participants. A current training certificate (no more than 3 years old) must be on file for all research team members before an exemption, approval, or extension can be granted. This required training applies to all levels of review: Exempt, Expedited, and Full Review studies. For dual review studies or studies using the Institutional Authorization Agreement (IAA), the training requirements will apply to TWU research team members only.
The TWU IRB provides training through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI), see link below. Effective September 26, 2018, NIH no longer provides this training so all renewals and new training must be completed through CITI; training certificates from NIH that are less than three years old will still be accepted. Researchers should verify with the IRB prior to protocol submission whether training certificates from other sources will be approved.
Once the training certificate has been been completed, the certificate must emailed to irb@twu.edu. Researchers will be notified when training is about to expire and can update their training at any time.
