COPE Cares

The College of Professional Education cares for its students and the community. The college exhibits that care in a number of ways. Here are just a few resources.

COPE Clothing Closet

The COPE Clothing Closet, managed by Aimée Myers, PhD of the School of Education, is open to any student within the College of Professional Education who needs access to professional attire.

In addition to Myers, the student organization FLAME volunteers to sort donations and organize the closet. To date, the COPE Clothing Closet has had 148 appointments and more than 40 walk-ins.

Students have said the clothing closet provided apparel that would have been otherwise financially unattainable and has reduced the stress of building a wardrobe as a new teacher or counselor.

One student unable to purchase maternity clothes was able to continue pursuing her professional goals while pregnant because of the COPE Clothing Closet. Another had lost her job due to COVID-19 and only had one pair of professional pants for student teaching. The clothing closet provided her with five pairs of pants, which she said boosted her confidence.

In addition to clothing, the closet provides jewelry and shoes. It is equipped with a dressing room and a full length mirror. Myers hopes to make the COPE Clothing Closet more like a boutique shopping experience.
