Residency Requirement Information

Residency Requirement

Students who wish to be released from the residency requirement must apply for an exemption prior to the 12th class day of the semester. A Housing administrator will review requests for exemption and all decisions made shall be considered final.

Instructions for submitting housing exemption request forms:

  • If you would like to request to be exempt from the residency requirement starting in fall of 2023, you must complete a Residency Exemption Request (Fall 2023) form in the Housing Portal. All exemption requests, except for certifying that you will be living with a parent/legal guardian within 40 miles of the Denton campus, require documentation to be uploaded when submitting the form.
  • Please read all posted information and allow approximately one week for processing. Housing & Dining staff will notify you when your form has been reviewed. If approved, an exemption request must be submitted each academic year until the student does not fall under the Residency Requirement guidelines.
