TWU to celebrate 50+ years of nursing PhD

The world has learned many lessons the past two years with the sudden arrival of — and adjustments to — COVID-19, perhaps none more pressing than there is an overwhelming need for more nurses. Nurses, however, do not just appear. It takes education and training as well as research into the best ways to nurse patients. That requires doctoral-educated nurses with careers in health administration, education, clinical research, and advanced clinical practice.

Nursing and JHG open academic support center

The Johanniter Humanitarian Group (JHG) of Texas partnered with Mike A. Myers and the Mike A. Myers Foundation to launch the Myers – JHG Tutoring and Academic Support Center in addition to funding 10 Texas Nursing Scholars.
Dallas nursing students win volunteer award

Dallas nursing students in the community health course have won the 2021 Tom Black Volunteer of the Year award from the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB). The award is one of the organization’s highest honors.
TWU faculty and students use occupational therapy to alleviate trauma in minors

When Dallas opened an emergency shelter for unaccompanied minors fleeing violence in North Central America in spring 2021, Texas Woman’s School of Occupational Therapy faculty and students jumped at the opportunity to use their skills to help. Much like when the field of occupational therapy supported people experiencing occupational deprivation in the old psychiatric hospitals and tuberculosis asylums 100 years ago, this shelter needed help to provide meaningful activities and support an environment that allowed minors to heal.
