Minerva’s Market

About Minerva’s Market

Minerva's Market provides free food to TWU students as a premier college partner with the Tarrant Area Food Bank. Minerva’s Market will be stocked with both fresh and non-perishable foods and items. Currently enrolled TWU students will have access to food items to positively impact their academic progress by supporting some of their nutritional needs. Additionally, CARE staff will provide information about the mobile pantry and SNAP application help while at the pantry.

Purpose

Minerva's Market, a free on-campus food pantry, is intended to help fill the gap for students experiencing food insecurity and not be the sole source of a student’s entire food needs. Minerva’s Market is focused on student success through supporting students who are hungry, fostering an increased understanding of food insecurity and providing a space for students to volunteer.

Hours and Location

Minerva's Market is located at the Student Union at Hubbard Hall #1203. Spring semester open hours are Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday at 11:30 am to 3:30 pm beginning January 16th. Email the CARE office or call 940.898.2789 to schedule an appointment for alternate days/ times.

If you have any questions, concerns, or need an appointment, don't hesitate to get in touch with the CARE office at 940.898.2789.

Texas Woman’s nutrition and dietetics student Alexandra Mack created cookbooks for her capstone project that feature recipes made from ingredients found in Minerva's Market.

How to Shop

Each semester, students will need to complete an application form. Once the form is complete, students will be able to shop at the Market one time per week at no charge. Students will need to show their student ID to verify enrollment and wear a mask in the pantry.

Helpful reminders

  • Bring your TWU ID
  • Bring grocery bags (if you have any)

Why the need for Minerva's Market?

Students experiencing hunger is a problem nationally and locally. According to research published by TWU Food & Nutrition Sciences faculty and graduate students, between 37-44% of TWU students reported experiencing food insecurity. Understandably when basic needs are not met, learning is impacted.
