Student Organization Leader Risk Management Training
Risk Management Education Program
The Center for Student Involvement, in accordance with Texas Education Code, Section 51.9361, provides annual risk management education for all TWU registered student organizations and advisors. The Center for Student Involvement strives to help student organizations and advisors facilitate activities and experiences within a safe and productive environment. Each student organization is required to complete the Risk Management Education Program annually.
What is Risk Management?
Risk Management is the process of advising organizations of the potential and perceived risks involved in their activities, providing education about the guiding boundaries established for organizations, and taking corrective actions and proactive steps to minimize accidental injury and/or loss. Risk management provides educational programs, resources, and services to prevent or minimize physical, psychological, financial, reputational, environmental, and other potential harms associated with student organization activities. Training is mandatory for all student organizations.
Risk Management Education Program Requirements
To meet the minimum obligations under Texas Education Code, Section 51.9361, each recognized student organization is required to participate in the program must ensure that the following components are completed by the established deadlines.
Each fall, the Center for Student Involvement will provide risk management training options to organizations both in person and virtually. The training schedule will be posted on myTWU and information will be emailed in advance to student leaders and advisors on file with the organization.
Please note that there are no online asynchronous training opportunities for student leaders. All training opportunities are in person or synchronous online.
Step One: Attendance
Two (2) student leaders (preferably the president and vice president) from the organization must attend as well as the student organization advisor. Participants must be on time and complete the training and attendance requirements to receive credit for the step. Student leaders should not represent more than two (2) organizations for this process.
Step Two: Inform Organization & Record Attendance
After the Risk Management Training provided by the Center for Student Involvement, the two student leaders will go back to their organization and present the information received at training. Attendance must be recorded for this meeting/presentation to the organization.
Step Three: Complete Compliance Report
Once the two student leaders have shared the information with the organization and tracked attendance, they will complete the online Compliance Form. Please note that emailed compliance form submissions or attendance sheets will not be accepted. Please use the online form provided in the directions for completing compliance.
Step Four: Compliance
Once the organization has successfully completed these steps and it has been recorded by the Center for Student Involvement by the deadline, then the organization is in good standing regarding Risk Management Training.
If an organization fails to complete these steps by the deadline, the organization is not in compliance and therefore may lose their student organization registration status and/or loss of rights and privileges on campus. This includes, but not limited to, reserving space, posting on campus, hosting events, receiving student organization funding, and participating in student organization involvement fairs.
All dates and information will be provided to student organizations using the online student organization platform, the TWU Events Calendar, Social Media, and emails to the officers on file with the organization.
Advisor Risk Management Education Training
Student Organization Advisors are also responsible for completing Risk Management Training. Currently, Risk Management Training for Advisors is the same as student organization leaders. The Center for Student Involvement has future plans to create a Student Organization Advisor Risk Management Training track on TWU Bridge training site. When that becomes available in the future, Advisors can complete either the online training OR the synchronous training options provided to the students. The Center for Student Involvement will be able to review the advisor completion and mark in good standing regarding risk management when the training is complete. Advisors will have until December 1 each year to fully complete the online training. The Center for Student Involvement will share with all Student Organization Advisors when this option is initiated. Until then, all Student Organization Advisors will participate in the same training sessions offered for the student leaders.
