Redbud Awards

The Redbud Awards have been established in order to acknowledge and commend TWU student leaders, recognized student organizations and student organization advisors for exemplary performance and dedication to serving others. These awards were developed to recognize their dedication and to emphasize the importance of co-curricular life in the educational process.

Nominations for 2026 awards are now open and will be accepted until Mar. 6. Please see award descriptions, details and links to individual forms below.

The Denton campus 2026 Redbud Award ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 23 at 4 p.m.

Redbud Award Criteria

Individual Student Leader Awards

Glenda Brock Simmons Community Service Award 

  • Student is currently enrolled in classes on the TWU Denton Campus.
  • Utilized and /or enhanced pathways for collaborative relationships between Texas Woman's University and community organizations such as Denton ISD, city/county partnerships, nonprofits, etc.
  • Demonstrated a self-initiated nature of service beyond the TWU community.
  • Exuded a servant leadership mentality when approaching all opportunities to serve others.

Nominate a student for the Glenda Brock Simmons Community Service Award

Emerging Leader of the Year Award 

  • Student is currently enrolled in classes on the TWU Denton Campus.
  • Began their personal journey of student leadership at TWU in the past year.
  • Modeled the way of getting involved on campus for fellow peers both in and out of the classroom.
  • Successfully explored and practiced the balance between academic efforts and co-curricular leadership opportunities at TWU.

Nominate a student for the Emerging Leader Award

Richard Nicholas Outstanding Student Leader Award 

  • Student is currently enrolled in classes on the TWU Denton Campus.
  • Demonstrated the most respected form of student leadership in the eyes of faculty, staff, and the student body at TWU for more than one year.
  • Continuously held both themselves and their fellow peers to the highest standards through behaviors and actions consistent with the core values of TWU.
  • Sought out and provided opportunities for others to learn and develop skills with student leadership.
  • Began to master the balance of academic and co-curricular efforts at TWU as well as life outside of TWU.
  • Explored how they will be an influential leader in their community beyond their time at TWU.

Nominate a student for the Richard Nicholas Outstanding Leader Award

Campus Leader with a Heart Award

  • Student awards goes to students (graduate or undergraduate) currently enrolled in classes on the TWU Denton Campus.
  • Exemplifies the concept of servant leadership – became a leader as a way to serve others
  • Has impacted their campus community behind the scenes and/or at the forefront of initiatives – always leading with the welfare of others in mind.
  • Understands the importance of others, puts the needs of others first and helps people develop & perform optimally in order to bring about positive social change.
  • Often an “unsung hero”, but whose leadership made a lasting impact on those around them and on the institution as a whole.

Nominate a student for the Campus Leader with a Heart Award

Pioneer Spirit Award - Individual Student

  • The student is currently enrolled in classes on the TWU Denton campus.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to promoting TWU spirit on campus and continuously encourages the TWU community to live according to these TWU values.
  • Creates opportunities for students to engage with the TWU Community through social and educational endeavors
  • The Spirit Award recognizes students who have shown significant school spirit and pride in being at TWU.
  • This award recognizes outstanding leadership, and the ability to influence others to advance the mission of the University. While all nominated students are dedicated to maroon and white, this student exudes pride in TWU and is excited to help others find their fit and place on campus.

Nominate a student for the Pioneer Spirit Award

Student Employee of the Year Award

  • The student is currently enrolled in classes on the TWU Denton campus.
  • Demonstrated the most respected form of student leadership in the eyes of faculty, staff, and the student body at TWU for more than one year.
  • Continuously held both themselves and their fellow peers to the highest standards through behaviors and actions consistent with the core values of TWU.
  • Sought out and provided opportunities for others to learn and develop skills within their role in the workplace.
  • Explored communication in the workplace, problem solving, capabilities and how this is an asset to the team.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, exemplifies leadership in their position.
  • Describe some of the notable achievements and/or contributions to the office/department since the student has been employed.

Nominate a student for the Student Employee of the Year

Feyten-Wick Health & Wellbeing Student Leader Award

  • Actively supports one of more dimensions of wellbeing (Build Well, Mind Well, Move Well, Eat Well, Spend Well) through involvement or leadership. 
  • Positively influences peers through inclusive, supportive, and health-promoting actions. 
  • Encourages connection, help-seeking, and student success.
  • Leads with compassion, integrity, and responsibility.
  • Makes a sustained and positive contribution to campus wellbeing. 

Nominate a student for the Feyten-Wick Health & Wellbeing Student Leader Award

Faculty or Staff Awards

Faculty or Staff Advisor of the Year Awards

  • Served as an official Advisor with a TWU registered or University sponsored organization for at least one year.
  • Contributed to positive growth of the organization during the previous calendar year alongside the organization's officers and members.
  • Intentionally guided the organization's officers to remain aligned with the core values of Texas Woman's University.

Nominate someone for the Faculty or Staff Advisor of the Year

Campus Leader with a Heart Award

  • Faculty/staff award goes to currently employed TWU faculty or staff members on the Denton campus.
  • Exemplifies the concept of servant leadership – became a leader as a way to serve others
  • Has impacted their campus community behind the scenes and/or at the forefront of initiatives – always leading with the welfare of others in mind.
  • Understands the importance of others, puts the needs of others first and helps people develop & perform optimally in order to bring about positive social change.
  • Often an “unsung hero”, but whose leadership made a lasting impact on those around them and on the institution as a whole

Student Organization Awards

Glenda Brock Simmons Student Organization Community Service Award

  • A registered or University sponsored student organization on the TWU Denton Campus.
  • Exceeded organization's minimum requirement/recommendation of opportunities for officers and members to serve community organizations such as Denton ISD, city/county partnerships, nonprofits, etc.
  • Exemplified a core value of community service for the entire organization and continuously encouraged officers and members to live according to these organizational values.

Nominate a group for the Glenda Brock Simmons Student Organization Community Service Award

Student Organization of the Year Award (registered and University sponsored*)

  • A registered or University sponsored student organization on the TWU Denton Campus.
  • Maintained a positive presence on the TWU Denton Campus and encouraged all faculty, staff, and students to live according to the core values of the University.
  • Furthered an environment with high standards of learning and created pathways for students to be more successful both in and out of the classroom.
  • Intentionally fostered ongoing collaborative relationships with other student organizations and/or academic and student life departments with both internal programs and University events outside of the organization.
  • Focused on effective transition among officers and members of the organization to ensure success and growth from year-to-year.

Nominate for the Student Organization of the Year

New Student Organization of the Year Award

  • Founded in the current academic school year
  • A current recognized student organization in good standing with the University
  • Showed promise in the areas of community engagement, collaboration, and advocacy.
  • Worked to establish collaborative relationships with other student organizations and/or academic and student life departments with both internal programs and University events outside of the organization.
  • Maintained a positive presence on the TWU Denton Campus and encouraged all faculty, staff, and students to live according to the core values of the University.

Nominate for the New Student Organization of the Year

*Please note the difference between a registered student organization and a University sponsored student organization is that University sponsored student organizations are sponsored and funded solely by a department (The Center for Student Development, Admissions, Alumni Relations, etc.). In contrast, registered student organizations fundraise internally within their organization.

Sorority and Fraternity Life Awards

Outstanding Sorority Woman/Fraternity Man of the Year Award

  • The student is currently enrolled in classes on the TWU Denton campus.
  • The student is in good standing with their Chapter and the University.
  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership, service, GPA, and overall contribution to the Sorority & Fraternity Life Community as well as to Texas Woman's University. 
  • If you are self-nominating, one letter of recommendation is required.

Nominate a student for the Outstanding Sorority Woman/Fraternity Man of the Year Award

Outstanding Sorority/Fraternity Advisor of the Year

  • The advisor currently advises a SFL Chapter on the TWU campus. 
  • The SFL Chapter is in good standing.
  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership, service, and overall contribution to the Sorority & Fraternity Life Community as well as to Texas Woman's University.

Nominate an advisor for the Outstanding Sorority/Fraternity Advisor of the Year

Outstanding Sorority/Fraternity New Member of the Year Award

  • The student is currently enrolled in classes on the TWU Denton campus.
  • The student is in good standing with their Chapter and the University.
  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership, service, GPA, and overall contribution to the Sorority & Fraternity Life Community as well as to Texas Woman's University. 
  • If you are self-nominating, one letter of recommendation is required.

Nominate a student for the Outstanding Sorority/Fraternity New Member of the Year Award

Outstanding Sorority/Fraternity President of the Year Award

  • The student is currently enrolled in classes on the TWU Denton campus.
  • The student is in good standing with their Chapter and the University.
  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership, service, GPA, and overall contribution to the Sorority & Fraternity Life Community as well as to Texas Woman's University. 
  • If you are self-nominating, one letter of recommendation is required.

Nominate a student for the Outstanding Sorority/Fraternity President of the Year Award

Sorority/Fraternity Best Program Award - Leadership

  • The SFL chapter is in good standing.
  • The leadership program must be an original chapter concept executed by the TWU chapter.
  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership contribution to the Sorority & Fraternity Life Community as well as to Texas Woman's University.

Nominate a leadership program for the Sorority/Fraternity Best Program Award - Leadership

Sorority/Fraternity Best Program of the Year Award - Community Service/Philanthropy

  • The SFL chapter is in good standing.
  • The community service/philanthropy program must be an original chapter concept executed by the TWU chapter.
  • Demonstrated outstanding service contribution to the Sorority & Fraternity Life Community as well as to Texas Woman's University.
