Ensembles

There are two ensembles that students can join. The Mariachi Alas is a beginner ensemble for musicians who are newer to playing or singing mariachi. The Mariachi Itzá is a more advanced ensemble. 

Auditions

Auditions for the TWU Mariachi are open to all students, regardless of major, though some musical background is required. Please note: there are currently no spots available for beginner violins or beginner trumpets. Beginners on harp, guitarrón, vihuela, and guitar are welcome.

To request an audition, please email Jason Molina at jmolina25@twu.edu. 

For your audition, you will be asked to perform:

• Son jalisciense (if you are new to mariachi, you can play anything mariachi-related) 

• Any instrumental piece of your choosing (preferably on a mariachi instrument - violin, trumpet, guitarron, vihuela, guitar, harp, for example) 

• A sung selection (any song of your choosing)
