PT student gained interprofessional experience, reward serving patients in Guatemala

Sammy Jo Shaw, a third-year doctor of physical therapy student at Texas Woman’s, was among a team of 14 graduate students and four College of Health Sciences faculty members that provided therapy services at various clinics in Guatemala. As part of a TWU experiential learning program, the group spent 10 days in May working with Hearts In Motion, an organization that offers medical care to people in need.

Texas Woman's graduate student Aracely Lomeli always knew she wanted to be a speech-language pathologist. She just didn't know there was a name for what she wanted to do. She is enhancing her SLP graduate degree by also working on a certification in bilingual SLP and is excited to be part of making a difference in the need for bilingual therapists.

Free dental screening event for kids enters fifth year

Texas Woman’s students and faculty hope to elicit smiles instead of tears at the fifth annual TWU Giving Kids a Smile event on Saturday, April 6, at the TWU Dental Hygiene Clinic. The event, organized and run by dental hygiene students, provides free oral care services to children with significant dental needs.

‘Retired’ OT professor not resting on laurels

Tina Fletcher, a professor emerita in the School of Occupational Therapy, retired from Texas Woman’s in 2022. While she now has more time for traveling, she has continued to write and recently published a book along with four collaborators.
