Houston Commencement

Commencement caps and gowns are ordered from Herff Jones at https://collegegrad.herffjones.com/site/welcome, which will be updated soon to reflect the Spring 2024 graduation. Please note that ALL cap and gown orders are mailed to your home within 3 weeks of receiving the paid order.

Having a graduation ring is a special symbol of your academic accomplishment. During the spring term, a Herff Jones representative will visit the Houston Office of Student Life to display a broad selection of rings and measure your ring size if needed.

Honor cords

Undergraduate students graduating Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Summa Cum Laude, can purchase a white honors stole. To receive your stole, contact the TWU bookstore-Denton for more information on ordering the stole. For information related to "Graduating with Honors" please visit the Registrar’s "Graduation and Commencement" page and open the section "Graduating with Honors". For members of honor organizations, honor cords or stoles can be bought through those memberships and worn at the Commencement ceremony. To order those unique cords (or stoles) contact the national or chapter organizations directly.

Veteran cords

Veteran cords are reserved for former military service personnel- all branches. To receive this special cord send a copy of your DD214 to the Veteran Affairs Office, showing an honorable discharge or general under honorable conditions discharge. Once TWU’s VA Certifying Official (Located in the Registrar’s Office), your cords will be mailed to you.

Those graduating with a doctorate may rent the gown with tam, tassel, and hood online. When you receive your order by mail, there will be a pre-paid return label in the box for you to mail back the gown. Students renting only need to return their gown to Herff Jones after the Graduating Ceremony and the hood, tam, and tassel are yours to keep.

Following commencement, TWU will complete a final audit of the completed coursework for your respective degree. Please allow 6 – 8 weeks following graduation for your diploma to arrive by mail to the address given on your graduation application.

Six tickets per student (for each of the different Commencements) are provided to each graduate. Please remember that:

• Six guests can attend your commencement.
• Children under 3 years old will not need a ticket.
• Tickets are provided by the Registrar’s Office closer to the actual Commencement date. The ticket retrieval instructions will be posted at that time on this web page: https://twu.edu/registrar/graduation-and-commencement/ticket-information/.

Complimentary Self-Parking: Town Center Parking Garage is located at the corner between 2005 Lake Robbins Drive and Six Pines Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77380. This parking garage offers easy access to the Woodlands Waterway Hotel & Convention Center via a climate-controlled skywalk.

Paid parking and Valet Parking: Located in front of the Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel - 1601 Lake Robbins Rd., The Woodlands, TX 77380. Persons with disabilities can be dropped off in front of the Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel. Just inform the parking attendant that you are dropping off and parking elsewhere.

Marc Nathan of Marc Nathan Photographers Inc at grads@mnathanphoto.com takes professional pictures for Capture U (free picture of the graduate) and commencement photos of each TWU graduate walking across the stage. Each graduate can view and buy the commencement photos at graduation, with no obligation to purchase them.
