All registration for Outdoor Adventure trips and clinics takes place at Fitness and Recreation front desk. Trips and clinics are only open to TWU students. For more info contact Mike Wilson.

Outdoor Adventure Trips Details

Equine Therapy

On this Outdoor Adventure wellness program, students will learn about and experience the wellness benefits of interacting with horses. Participants will first learn basic safety information about how to engage with a horse so as to minimize stress for the animal and to reduce risk to themselves. Students will have the opportunity to engage in activities including petting, brushing, and spending time with a horse. No previous experience with horses is required. We anticipate leaving the Fitness & Recreation Center on the Denton Campus at 9:30 am and should return around 12:00pm. Transportation will be provided. Estimated time: 2 hours. Reservations required (up to 15 TWU students) on first come, first served basis. Sign up at the front desk of the Fitness & Recreation Center.

Hiking Trip

Dinosaur Valley State Park near Glenrose, TX is a great destination for hiking, camping, exploring, water activities, and searching for preserved Dinosaur footprints in the riverbed. Come join us on a hiking trip and enjoy spending the day exploring the trails in and around the Paluxy River. You will need to bring good comfortable shoes and comfortable clothes to hike in. Small snacks and bottled water will be provided but Fit & Rec. Registration required (up to 12 current TWU students) on first come first served basis. Please come register at the Fit & Rec front desk starting January 17.

Zipline Trip

Join TWU Outdoor Adventure for a visit to Trinity Forest Adventure Park to enjoy some ziplining and high rope elements! TWU Outdoor Adventure will provide transportation to and from the trip location. Registration required (up to 12 current TWU students) on first come first served basis. Please come register at the Fit and Rec front desk starting January 17.

Spring Break Camping Trip

Sign up for the Outdoor Adventure Camping Trip to kick off your Spring Break with a visit to East Texas! We will provide transportation, food, and all necessary equipment for this trip. Planned activities include hiking, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, star gazing, and fishing. Sign up at the Fit and Rec front desk starting January 17. If you have questions please come to our Spring Trip Interest meeting on January 31 at 5:00pm in the Fit and Rec lounge.

Horseback Riding Trip

Sign up early for this Horseback Riding trip with Outdoor Adventure. The trip will head to Grapevine, Texas for a one and a half hour trail ride. Transportation and light snacks will be provided. This trip is limited to the first 10 students to sign up. Sign up at the Fit and Rec front desk starting January 17. If you have questions please come to our Spring Trip Interest meeting on January 31 at 5:00pm in the Fit and Rec lounge.

Lake Day Trip

As the weather warms up come spend the day with TWU Outdoor Adventure staff at Possum Kingdom Lake for some swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and relaxing in the sun. We will provide transportation and all necessary equipment for this trip. Sign up at the Fit and Rec front desk starting January 17. If you have questions please come to our Spring Trip Interest meeting on January 31 at 5:00pm in the Fit and Rec lounge.

Backpacking Trip

Are you ready for a challenge and some fresh mountain air? This will be a strenuous backpacking trip into the mountains around Santa Fe, New Mexico. The anticipated route will cover 25-35 miles over 3 days. This trip will be at mountain elevation, starting around 8000ft above sea level. There will be several meetings to prepare for this trip with additional guidance given at each meeting. All necessary equipment required for this trip will be provided by TWU Outdoor Adventure. Sign up at the Fit and Rec front desk starting January 17. If you have questions please come to our Spring Trip Interest meeting on January 31 at 5:00pm in the Fit and Rec lounge.

Outdoor Adventure Clinics Details

Intro to Watersports

Have you ever wanted to learn how to kayak or stand-up paddleboard? This is your chance! Throughout the semester we will host classes teaching you how to kayak or paddleboard in the Pioneer Hall Pool. All you need to do is bring your friends and show up! TWU Outdoor Adventure will provide all of the equipment you will need including life vests (PFD’s). Registration is not required for this event.

Trip Interest Meeting

Come to the lounge at the Fit and Rec for some FREE pizza and to learn all about the planned Outdoor Adventure trips for the Spring 2023 semester. Here’s your chance to ask all the questions you have and to sign up for the trips.

S’mores and Stargazing

Join TWU Outdoor Adventure staff in the woods near the Dining Hall for some FREE S’Mores and enjoy the night sky. All supplies will be provided including vegan options.

Biking Basics Clinic

Are you wanting to brush up your biking skills or learn some new ones? Come to the Intramural Field for this Outdoor Adventure Clinic. We will provide bikes, helmets, and all necessary equipment to help you become more comfortable on a bike. Whether you want to ride around Denton or check out some local mountain bike trails this clinic can be for you!
