All registration for Outdoor Adventure trips and clinics takes place at Fitness and Recreation front desk. Trips and clinics are only open to TWU students. For more info contact Mike Wilson.

Outdoor Adventure Trips Details

Equine Therapy

On this Outdoor Adventure wellness program, students will learn about and experience the wellness benefits of interacting with horses. Participants will first learn basic safety information about how to engage with a horse so as to minimize stress for the animal and to reduce risk to themselves. Students will have the opportunity to engage in activities including petting, brushing, and spending time with a horse. No previous experience with horses is required. We anticipate leaving the Fitness & Recreation Center on the Denton Campus at 9:30 am and should return around 12:00pm. Transportation will be provided. Estimated time: 2 hours. Reservations required (up to 15 TWU students) on first come, first served basis. Sign up at the front desk of the Fitness & Recreation Center.

Lake Day

This trip will take the group to Lake Ray Roberts State Park just North of Denton. We will spend the day swimming and paddling on kayaks and stand up paddleboards that will be provided by Fitness & Recreation. A simple lunch and snacks along with bottled water will also be provided during this trip. Registration required (up to 15 current TWU students) on first come first served basis. Please come register at the Fit & Rec front desk starting August 29.

Whitewater Rafting

Join TWU Outdoor Adventure on a Whitewater Rafting trip in Oklahoma City! We will leave early and drive to Oklahoma City to enjoy the day rafting and enjoying the adventures provided. You will need to bring water clothes, a towel, and a full dry change of clothes for after the rafting experience. Small snacks and bottled water will be provided but Fit & Rec. Registration required (up to 12 current TWU students) on first come first served basis. Please come register at the Fit & Rec front desk starting August 29.

Turner Falls Hiking Trip

Turner Falls is a great destination for hiking, camping, exploring, and water activities. Come join us on a hiking trip and enjoy spending the day in Southern Oklahoma. You will need to bring good comfortable shoes and comfortable clothes to hike in. Small snacks and bottled water will be provided but Fit & Rec. Registration required (up to 12 current TWU students) on first come first served basis. Please come register at the Fit & Rec front desk starting August 29.

Wichita Mountains Camping Trip

Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Southwestern Oklahoma has amazing geologic wonders and spectacular wildlife! Come spend the weekend with TWU Outdoor Adventure staff exploring and relaxing in the park. This trip is very beginner friendly. You will have an opportunity to learn and develop new skills or build on skills you already have! We will leave the Denton campus Friday mid-day and will return Sunday early afternoon. All meals and snacks are provided by TWU Fit & Rec except for breakfast Sunday morning. A thorough packing list and more details will be provided closer to the trip date. Registration required (up to 12 current TWU students) on first come first served basis. Please come register at the Fit & Rec front desk starting August 29.

Mountain Bike Trip

Come try out Denton’s very own mountain bike trails with TWU Outdoor Adventure! We provide bikes and helmets! These trails are very beginner friendly and can be a great way for you to be introduced to the sport of mountain biking. Your registration includes use of a bike, helmet, transportation, and water. Registration required (up to 9 current TWU students) on first come first served basis. Please come register at the Fit & Rec front desk starting August 29.

Intro to Watersports

Have you ever wanted to learn how to kayak or stand-up paddleboard? This is your chance! Throughout the semester we will host classes teaching you how to kayak or paddleboard in the Pioneer Hall Pool. All you need to do is bring your friends and show up! TWU Outdoor Adventure will provide all of the equipment you will need including life vests (PFD’s). Registration is not required for this event.
