Texas Nursing Students Scholarship

The Texas Nursing Students Scholarship Program promotes health care and educational needs by providing scholarships to eligible professional and vocational nursing students.

Eligibility requirements

  • Be a resident of Texas;
  • Be registered with Selective Service, or be exempt;
  • Show financial need;
  • Be enrolled at least half-time in a course of study leading to an undergraduate or graduate degree in professional nursing or one intending to prepare a student for licensure as a licensed vocational nurse;
  • Have made Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) in accordance with TWU's financial aid academic progress requirements.

Application process

No scholarship application is required.  TWU identifies and awards eligible students. Due to limited funds, not all eligible students will receive an award. This scholarship is not a competitive scholarship.

Hardship provisions

If a student is ineligible to receive the Nursing Students Scholarship because of academic progress or enrollment, they may qualify for one of the following exceptions:

  • Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeal — Students may submit a SAP Appeal to the financial aid office explaining their situation. If approved, the scholarship may be reinstated.
  • Less than Half Time Enrollment — Students must provide documentation explaining why less than half time enrollment is required. If approved, the scholarship may be reinstated.

Credit hour limit

Students can receive the Texas Nursing Scholarship for up to 15 credit hours beyond the requirements of their degree program. Once they exceed this limit, they are no longer eligible for the scholarship. TWU does not offer a hardship provision for this requirement.
