SLIS opens certificate in community information
SLIS opened a brand new certificate program focused in community information for Fall 2025. The certificate will be available with the Master of Library Science or as its own Post-Master's Certificate in Community Information.
The community information program focuses on libraries as essential parts of their communities. Students will develop skills in community engagement, which will help them ultimately expand library services, foster community-led collaborations and grant. Writing, and ensure libraries are a vital part of the social infrastructure.
Students learn to engage community members and organizations for positive change in their own communities. Courses focus on developing community projects, grant writing, library marketing and advocacy and more.
Two program options:
- MLS with Certificate in Community Information: For students who want to earn the MLS and the Certificate in Community Information at the same time.
- Post-Master's Certificate in Community Information: For students who already hold a master's degree in library and information science (or another discipline).
The Certificate in Community Information would be especially valuable for students interested in public librarianship, but it would apply to other types of librarianship and information-focused settings.
Current SLIS students: If you would like to add the Certificate in Community Information to your MLS degree, contact Cindy Englehart (cenglehart@twu.edu).
