Bias-Based Profiling Prohibited

The Texas Woman's University Police Department has an established policy prohibiting bias-based profiling in accordance with state and federal law. This policy is strictly enforced, and the department will take immediate and appropriate action to investigate any allegations of bias-based profiling. The policy applies to all members of the department, both commissioned and non-commissioned.

The department shall accept complaints from any person who believes that they were stopped, searched, inappropriately ticketed, or arrested based on any bias-based profiling (including racial profiling). No person shall be discouraged, intimidated, or otherwise impeded from filing a complaint concerning bias-based profiling.

What is Racial Profiling?

Racial profiling is a law enforcement action that is motivated by an individual's race, ethnicity, or national origin.

What is Bias-Based Profiling?

Bias-Based profiling is the selection of an individual based solely on a trait common to a group, for enforcement action. This includes but is not limited to: race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, economic status, age, cultural group, or any other identifiable group.

How do I make a complaint?

Citizens who wish to file a complaint should request to talk to a supervisor. It is the responsibility of the contacted supervisor to inform the complainant of the proper procedure for filing the complaint. Complainants will be offered a Citizen Complaint Form if they wish to file an official complaint. 

What happens to my complaint after it is received?

All complaints are investigated to determine the nature of the allegation, the type of allegation, and the facts surrounding the allegation. An investigation report will be forwarded to the Chief of Police for final evaluation of the complaint and determination of any corrective action as necessary.
