Police Officer
Salary
Police Officer: $60,000
Certification Pay
Officers earn additional pay for their highest obtained TCOLE certification.
Basic: $2,400 per year
Intermediate: $4,800 per year
Advanced: $7,200 per year
Master: $9,600 per year
Requirements
Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Texas and a safe driving record as required to attain Driver's Authorization through the university. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Must pass a background check, drug screening, a physical, and a psychological exam. Rotating schedule including nights and weekends, eight (8) hour shifts. No experience required, although previous law enforcement experience is preferred.
Primary Duties
- Patrol the campus and other properties owned or controlled by TWU.
- Provide a safe and secure environment for all members of the university community through alert and thorough preventative patrol and the courteous delivery of services consistent with the needs of students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
- Maintain knowledge of and enforce criminal law by reducing opportunities for criminal activity and arresting offenders.
Police Officer Benefits

- Employees earn eight (8) hours of sick time every month as well as eight (8) hours of vacation time. The amount of vacation hours accrued monthly increases with time served at TWU.
- In addition to the sick time and vacation time, employees receive between twelve (12) and fifteen (15) paid holiday days off.
- Our 401(a) retirement plan is administered by the Teacher Retirement System of Texas.

Police Telecommunicator (Dispatcher)
Salary
Police Telecommunicator: $42,743
Certification Pay

Differential Shift Pay
Extra $100 per month for those on night shift.
Requirements
Police Telecommunicators must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must pass a background check, drug screening and a psychological exam. TWU DPS will send new hires to training to become TCOLE certified as a telecommunicator, if they are not already TCOLE certified. Telecommunicators must be able to obtain TCOLE certification within one (1) year of hiring. One (1) year of experience in a position with high public contact requiring decision making and problem solving under stressful conditions is preferred, but not required. Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Texas and a safe driving record as required to attain Driver's Authorization through the university.
Primary Duties
This critical role serves as the vital communications link between the campus community needing help and emergency services response. As members of the public safety ecosystem, licensed Police Telecommunicators are typically the first point of contact when a person reaches out for help. The State of Texas recognizes Public Safety Telecommunicators as “First Responders.” This requires a candidate to be able to work independently, organized, be adept at multi-tasking, and handle a high-stress environment calmly and professionally while receiving and evaluating incoming emergency and administrative requests for emergency services including but not limited to law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS). Work is performed under general supervision and performance evaluation is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures. Must be able to work twelve-hour shifts, rotating schedule.

Security Guard (Dallas Campus)
Salary Range
Security Guard: $31,386-$37,386 (depends on experience)
Primary Duties
- Performs security work in the protection of property against theft, vandalism, illegal entry, and other destructive acts
- Patrols the TWU Dallas campus building and parking garage
- Completes monthly security surveys
- Unlock/lock doors as needed
- Answer calls for service
- Provides courtesy escorts on campus if requested
- Watches for and reports emergencies and irregularities immediately
- Prepares incident reports
- Activates and deactivates alarms
- Warns violators of rule infractions
- Assists stranded motorists
- Responds to emergency call-outs
- Performs other duties as requested
