“My path to higher education hasn’t been a straight line, but every step has shaped who I am today. From exploring Early Childhood Education, Real Estate, Dental Assisting and Massage Therapy to ultimately pursuing my BAAS in Professional Studies at Texas Woman’s University, I’ve learned that higher education is not just about choosing a single path, it’s about discovering what truly resonates with you. Even the experiences that didn’t turn into long-term careers were valuable. They taught me resilience, adaptability and gave me the clarity to build a future that feels authentic and fulfilling.”

As a non-traditional student with years of experience in higher education, I offer a unique perspective on the college journey. I believe in the power of sharing personal experiences to guide and inspire others. “My college journey has been anything but linear, but every twist and turn has helped me grow into who I am today. From starting out in fashion design to returning to nursing, and then finally finding my passion in psychology and health studies, I’ve learned the value of patience, perseverance and keeping an open mind. Working as a registered behavior technician helped me discover a purpose in supporting mental health and well-being. I’ve come to understand that success isn’t about having everything figured out—it’s about staying true to yourself, being willing to grow, and taking life one step at a time. I’m proud to be graduating and excited for all the possibilities ahead."

Concentrations: Business & Psychology
Graduation date: May, 2025
"Before applying to TWU, I was unsure of my path, and hesitant about re-entering school after years away. Discovering TWU’s Bachelor of General Studies program—where I could concentrate in both business and psychology—felt like the perfect fit for someone with multiple passions like me. Choosing this program allowed me to pursue my dream of becoming both a business owner and a family therapist. Through business courses, I’ve gained entrepreneurial knowledge and leadership skills to confidently step into business ownership, while my psychology classes have ignited a deep passion to serve families in need within my community.
"My job experience has shown me the struggles many families face, and my psychology courses at TWU gave me the tools to better understand and address those challenges. At the same time, I’m building a strong foundation in business so I can one day open my own private therapy practice—one that’s welcoming, compassionate and community-focused. TWU has given me the opportunity to merge two parts of myself that I never thought could work together. I now look forward to merging my two passions to form my dream career."

“My experience as a General Studies major with concentrations in health studies and business has helped me better understand my interests and strengths while giving me the tools to prepare for life after graduation. I’ve learned that I enjoy exploring health-related topics and want to use that knowledge to help others, even if I’m still figuring out the exact path I want to take. Through this program, I gained valuable career preparation skills, like how to build a strong resume, write a cover letter and navigate job searches, that I didn’t know before. While I’m still exploring options like becoming a medical assistant or surgical tech, I feel more confident knowing that my education has equipped me with the knowledge and flexibility to pursue different opportunities in the healthcare field."

From struggling with my initial major to finding my true passion for education, I’ve learned that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams.
