TWU to host banquet honoring MLK legacy
Jan. 12, 2023 – DENTON – The Texas Woman's University Center for Student Leadership, Legacy and Leaders is co-sponsoring a banquet honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy of bold leadership.
The event will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 6-7:30 p.m. in the southeast ballroom of Hubbard Hall, and is co-sponsored by the Toast with Confidence chapter of Toastmasters.
The keynote speaker will be Tiffany M. Gethers, PhD. Special guests will be winners of the MLK Middle School essay contest. More than 60 essays were submitted by students from Denton's Calhoun Middle School and Everman's Roy Johnson STEM Academy.

Gethers is a leadership and business coach and strategist. She has a background in leadership, business development, public relations and integrated marketing to build the leadership capacity of emerging and senior leaders and students. She is co-founder, president and CEO of The 2Gethers Foundation, an Illinois nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering first-generation students to attain a college degree and equips them with the necessary tools, resources and opportunities to achieve academic and life excellence. As a first-generation student, Gethers works to improve access to higher education, student success, and retention rates particularly among at-risk student populations. She has served in various administrative leadership capacities in post-secondary institutions for more than 15 years.
