20 students honored at MLK Banquet
Jan. 27, 2023 – DENTON – Texas Woman's University hosted the Dr. Martin Luther King Banquet on Jan. 18, and honored 20 middle school students for their MLK essays.
The banquet, hosted by the Center for Student Leadership, JNIWL Legacy Leaders, and Toast with Confidence chapter of Toastmasters International, featured a keynote address by Tiffany Gethers, PhD, co-founder and president of the 2Gethers Foundation.
The MLK banquet was part of the TWU Week of Service and Celebration coordinated by the Office of Student Development; Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Outreach; and the JNIWL Center for Student Leadership.
More than 60 students from Roy Johnson STEM Academy in Everman and Calhoun Middle School in Denton submitted essays for the MLK essay contest. A committee of JNIWL staff and the MLK committee members reviewed the essays and selected 20 students to recognize at the banquet.
