Women's Leadership Forum
Join the Jane Nelson Institute for Women’s Leadership and Office of Human Resources for the inaugural TWU Women’s Leadership Forum. The Women’s Leadership Forum is designed to explore and promote opportunities for authentic leadership and promote confidence in the leadership abilities of TWU staff and faculty. This year’s summit theme is: (Re)Defining Your Values, Your Voice, Your Journey. In a series of sessions, attendees will be challenged to re-examine their personal values and how those values are shared with others through their communication and professional identities.
While many are eager to get back into (or continue) in-person events, we recognize that some of us greatly enjoy the flexibility of virtual events. This year’s forum is presented in a hybrid format with the first two sessions being hosted via Zoom only. The keynote session will be held in-person at Hubbard Hall on the Denton campus and also streamed live via Zoom.

Session Descriptions
Session 1: Defining your Leadership Values
9:15 – 10:00am CT
Online via Zoom
In the hustle and bustle of today’s work environment, it can be easy to lose track of who we are and what’s important to us. The most effective leaders are those who understand their core values and use those values to interact, influence, and engage others they work with. Understanding what drives us often makes us more aware of what drives others and how we can use that to increase our influence and fuel action. Featured speaker, Prita Chhabra, will share how we can re-engage with our core values to redefine and refuel our leadership identities.
About Prita:
Prita Chhabra is a Site Director for Public Allies Central Florida. A 2013-2014 graduate of Public Allies, she previously served as the program coordinator of High School High Tech, where she was responsible for introducing high school students living in foster care to different careers in the STEM field.
Originally a recording artist with six music videos under her belt, her latest project “Unstoppable” won Best Music Video at the 2018 Melbourne Independent Film Festival and is dedicated to all the students and young adults she continues to work with. In 2021, Prita was recognized as an Orlando Business Journal 40 under 40 award recipient as well as receiving the CREST award from Embrace Families.
Session 2: Speak Up with Moxie
10:10 – 10:50am CT
Online via Zoom
Few situations are more anxiety-producing than those where you want your communication to drive people to take action. Whether you are seeking to persuade colleagues or team members to champion a new initiative, you want someone to respect a professional boundary, or you want to call an audience to take action on your ideas at the end of an important presentation, you want your communication to be persuasive – and you want to be in your full integrity as you communicate. Featured speaker, Alexia Vernon, will show you how to speak with moxie and sculpt persuasive communication that works face-to-face and in our new virtual world so that people are eager to say yes to you and your ideas. By the end of this interactive session, you’ll be able to tame diminishing self-talk, demystify the key components of vocal empowerment, more effectively speak to pain points and personal motivators, and follow a model for consistent high-impact and heart-centered communication.
About Alexia:
Alexia Vernon, founder of Alexia Vernon Empowerment, LLC, is a nationally-recognized coach, speaker, and media contributor who’s delivered transformational keynotes and trainings to Fortune 500 companies and professional associations across the nation, spoken at the United Nations, delivered a TEDx talk on the future of feminism, and been featured by media including CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Inc., and Women’s Health.
