Trip Interest Meeting

Come to the lounge at the Fit and Rec for some FREE pizza and to learn all about the planned Outdoor Adventure trips for the Fall 2024 semester. Here’s your chance to ask all the questions you have and to sign up for the trips.

Equine Therapy Description

On this Outdoor Adventure wellness program, students will learn about and experience the wellness benefits of interacting with horses. Participants will first learn basic safety information about how to engage with a horse so as to minimize stress for the animal and to reduce risk to themselves. Students will have the opportunity to engage in activities including petting, brushing, and spending time with a horse. No previous experience with horses is required. We anticipate leaving the Fitness & Recreation Center on the Denton Campus at 9:30 a.m. and should return around Noon Transportation will be provided. Estimated time: 2 hours. Reservations required (up to 15 TWU students) on first come, first served basis. Sign up at the front desk of the Fitness & Recreation Center.

Photo Hiking Trip

Grab your camera and check out the scenery in Lake Mineral Wells State Park inMineral Wells, TX. On this trip you will get to explore the Penitentiary Hollow area of the park with amazing views looking over Lake Mineral Wells. Sign up using the online portal.

Kayaking Trip Description

Get your paddle on with TWU Outdoor Adventure as we take a nice leisurely paddle down the Elm Fork of the Trinity River starting at Lake Ray Roberts north of Denton. This paddle will be a little over 4 miles in length with kayaks, paddles, and life jackets provided for all participants. Pre-Registration is required for this event. You can register at our online portal.

Lake Day Description

This trip will take the group to Lake Ray Roberts State Park just North of Denton. We will spend the day swimming and paddling on kayaks and stand up paddleboards that will be provided by Fitness & Recreation. A simple lunch and snacks along with bottled water will also be provided during this trip. Registration required (up to 15 current TWU students) on first come first served basis. Please come register at the Fit & Rec front desk starting August 29.

Coffee Stop

Join the Fit & Rec staff for a kickstart to your day before class and learn about our programs! We will start at 8 a.m. in front of the Fit and Rec front porch. We will continue providing coffee until we run out. This event is FREE to all TWU students and Fit and Rec members!

Outdoor Movie

Grab a chair and join the Outdoor Adventure staff for a movie in the great outdoors!

S’mores and Stargazing

Do you like S'Mores? Do you like Stargazing? You betcha you do! Come warm up with TWU Outdoor Adventure and enjoy some FREE S'Mores while enjoying the night sky. We will be at the fire pits next to the TWU Dining Hall. This come and go event is open to TWU students and Fit & Rec members. All supplies will be provided including vegan options.

Adventure Academy

Join TWU Outdoor Adventure and enjoy hands on demonstrations on how to build a campfire, campsite setup , basic campfire cooking, and stargazing. Enjoy S'Mores and an Outdoor Movie to wind down your evening.

We Brake For Tacos

Join our TWU Outdoor Adventure staff for a quick bike ride to a local taco shop. We’ll provide the bikes, helmets, and locks for FREE. You’ll provide the leg power and money for your tacos.

Walk to the Square

Join our TWU Outdoor Adventure staff on a casual walk from the TWU campus to Denton Square for some famously delicious ice cream at Beth Marie’s, a gnome-shaped frozen treat from Gnome Cone, or a beverage of your choice from Jupiter House Coffee. Participants will pay for their own treats, snacks, or beverages. Bring your friends for a fun and social night!

Bike Ride to the Park

Reserve a bike or bring your own and enjoy a planned and lead trip to a local park. Along the way we'll stop for shaved ice and enjoy simple lawn games and exploring while at the park!
