First-Gen Laptop Loaner Program

Purpose

The First-Gen Laptop Loaner Program is designed to provide first-generation college students with temporary access to laptops to support their academic success. This program aims to bridge the digital divide by ensuring students have the necessary technology to complete coursework, conduct research, and participate in virtual learning.

Eligibility

To qualify for the program, students must:

First-generation college student (defined as neither parent having completed a four-year degree in the U.S.) or otherwise qualified by the Executive Director of the Center for First-Generation Students
Be currently enrolled as a full-time or part-time student at the institution
Be an undergraduate or graduate student

Loan Period

Laptops are available on a semester-by-semester basis (up to 16 weeks).

Extensions may be granted based on availability and continued eligibility.
Students must return the laptop by the designated due date.

Application Process

Complete the online application form
CFGS Staff will respond to the request via TDX ticketing system within 2-3 business days

Laptop Usage Guidelines

Laptops are to be used for academic purposes only.
Students must not install unauthorized software or alter system settings.
Any damage, loss, or theft must be reported immediately.
Borrowers are responsible for maintaining the laptop in good condition.

Returns and Penalties

Laptops must be returned by the due date in the same condition they were loaned.
Late returns may result in the loss of future borrowing privileges.

Technical Support

Basic troubleshooting and assistance will be provided by TWU ITS Department.
Borrowers experiencing technical issues should report them as soon as possible.
