First-Gen Graduation Reception

The Center for First-Generation Students is delighted to announce the First-Generation Graduation Reception, slated for Friday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m. The event will take place in the Student Union at Hubbard Hall, Southwest Ballroom, and will honor graduating, first-generation college students. First-generation (or first-gen) college students are students whose parents or guardians have not completed a bachelor’s degree in the U.S.

Please join us for a reception where you can come and go at your convenience to collect your first-generation graduation stole and celebrate your achievements!

As part of the celebration, TWU graduating students will have an opportunity to apply for a unique First-Gen Pioneers Stole. This unique stole serves as a representation of a first-generation student’s journey, challenges, and achievements, and symbolizes the pride they feel for being the first in their family to attain a four-year degree.

Navigating the university system can be arduous for first-generation college students, who often face obstacles such as demanding work schedules, family commitments, and financial difficulties. Therefore, the stole is a fitting symbol of their perseverance and dedication.

Applications for the First-Gen Pioneers stole will be available from Monday, October 14, through October 25, 2024. The number of available stoles is limited. Notification of selection will be sent via email during the first week of November.

We are thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments of our first-generation Pioneers and look forward to honoring you at this milestone event!
