For students pursuing teacher certification in Texas, regular advising is particularly important. It helps navigate the complex relationship between university graduation standards and specific requirements set by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for state licensure. Without proper guidance, students may miss crucial certification exams or fail to complete necessary coursework for teaching in Texas.

Subject-Specific Advising
Students who wish to obtain high school subject-level certification or a certificate that covers all grade levels should major in the specific subject area (e.g., English, Theatre Arts) for their certification and minor in education.
Additionally, students pursuing degrees in the College of Arts and Sciences or the College of Health Sciences should contact the appropriate advisor listed here, and schedule a meeting with OEPS.
