Conceptual Framework

The mission of the Texas Woman’s University Educator Preparation Program (EPP) is to develop teachers and professional educators who are engaged, prepared, and professional.

A conceptual framework illustrates our core values and guides the planning and outcomes that align with our EPP’s mission. It summarizes our philosophical views of the roles of teaching and learning and our essential understandings of how best to prepare candidates to become effective teachers and leaders.

Also guiding the work of TWU’s EPP are standards from the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) Expectations that specify the aspects of candidate completer performance and program practices which distinguish effective programs.

  • As a proud, highly diverse Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), our candidates mirror the diverse P-12 communities they will serve. We build on their unique strengths to prepare them as distinguished, adaptable, and collaborative educators.

  • We strategically partner with stakeholders to secure high-quality field experiences and valuable program input. By actively serving on local and state education boards, we collaborate to advance the common goal of quality educator preparation.

  • We design high-quality, scaffolded field experiences and standards-aligned coursework embedded with culturally responsive pedagogy and emerging technologies.

 

EPP Utilize Resources symbol

  • We secure local and federal funding to support innovative professional pathways and clinical practice. We also provide targeted exam preparation and resources to ensure candidate certification success.

 

EPP Continuous Improvement symbol

Continuous Improvement

  • We regularly review data to drive programmatic improvements and evidence-based practices. Additionally, we conduct research and produce scholarship to actively contribute to the body of knowledge on quality educator preparation.

  • Our support extends beyond graduation. Through multiple professional learning events, our alumni can gain targeted support for early-career success.
