Project CODE

Project Certification Online in Deaf Education (CODE) is an interdisciplinary collaboration between Texas Woman’s University, Region 17 Education Service Center, Texas Education Agency and the Texas Sensory Support Network. Funded by a grant, this unique project was created to train certified Texas teachers to become teachers of the deaf/hard of hearing in the state of Texas. 

Project CODE begins in June 2023 with an online course in American Sign Language. Texas Woman’s will offer 6-7 graduate courses throughout the academic year.

The grant requires applicants to have a bachelor’s degree, intermediate sign language skills or a willingness to take an approved summer American Sign Language course through Texas Woman’s and a Texas teacher certification with a preferred three years of classroom teaching experience. Each applicant must secure sponsorship from an educational entity.
