COPE celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Sept. 10, 2021 — DENTON — The College of Professional Education (COPE) at TWU is proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, with three scheduled speakers throughout the month. As part of a university that ranks first in Texas and fifth nationally in ethnic diversity and just announced its most diverse student body ever, the college values equity and inclusion.
Luzelma Canales, PhD, will kick off Hispanic Heritage Month on the first day, Sept. 15, with a session on Latino student success. Lourdes Davenport follows with information from Proyecto Inmigrante on Sept. 23 at a TWU BESO meeting. Glenda Flores, PhD, part of COPE’s Research, Inclusion and Innovation virtual speaker series, will present her book "Latina Teachers: Creating Careers and Guarding Culture" on Oct. 6.

Hispanic Heritage Month honors histories, cultures and contributions of members of Hispanic and Latinx communities. As a Hispanic-Serving Institution, Texas Woman's University has long valued the diversity of thought and traditions that Hispanic students, faculty and staff bring to the university.

COPE Celebra el Mes de la Herencia Hispana
El Colegio Profesional de Educación (COPE por sus siglas en inglés) de TWU se enorgullece en celebrar el Mes de la Herencia Hispana, del 15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre, con tres oradores invitados. TWU es una universidad que valora la equidad y la inclusion. Actualmente ocupa el primer lugar en Texas y el quinto en la nación en diversidad étnica. Recientemente anunció que consta con el cuerpo estudiantil más diverso de todos los tiempos.
La doctora Luzelma Canales dará inicio al Mes de la Herencia Hispana el primer día, 15 de septiembre, con una sesión sobre el éxito de los estudiantes latinos. Lourdes Davenport sigue con información del Proyecto Inmigrante el 23 de septiembre como parte de la reunión mensual de la organización estudiantil TWU- BESO. Culminamos con la doctora Glenda Flores, que presentará su libro Latina Teachers: Creating Careers and Guarding Culture el 6 de octubre.
