Alexandra Welker awarded Empowering Woman as Leaders scholarship, mentoring

October 28, 2021 — DENTON — Undergraduate TWU English major Alexandra Welker was recently awarded a $1,000 STAR scholarship by Empowering Women as Leaders (EWL). The scholarship includes mentorship opportunities through the EWL member network.

After completing her degree, Welker will give back to the organization by becoming a mentor to a new STAR scholarship recipient.

According to the EWL website, STAR scholarships are awarded to "deserving non-traditionally aged women who are provided the mentoring and education to help them ignite their own light and energy so they may shine bright in their future lives and careers."

Previous TWU STAR scholarship award winners include Helaine Smith (BS Government '18), Lina Suarez (BA Fashion Design, BS Fashion Merchandising '16) and Galynn Lindemann (Bachelor of Social Work '06).

About Empowering Women as Leaders

Empowering Women as Leaders (EWL) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting non-traditional age women, in financial need, to achieve their highest potential through scholarships, mentoring and networking.

Founded in 2004, EWL provides scholarship assistance to non-traditional college-age women who often face challenges with obtaining traditional financial support. We go the distance with our scholars by providing them with mentors and networking opportunities as they take on leadership roles in their careers.
