Phillips-Cunningham discusses book, research in NYU series and Rutgers talk

Dr. Danielle Phillips-Cunningham, MWGS Program Director, was a featured speaker in the Black, Brown, and Green Voices Series at New York University’s Glucksman Ireland House. The series is a public humanities initiative that explores the shared histories of Irish and Black people in the Caribbean, Ireland, and the United States. It is co-sponsored by Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, the African American Irish Diaspora Network, and New York University.

Dr. Phillips-Cunningham engaged in a conversation with Dr. Miriam Grey (founder of the series) about the comparative labor histories of southern Black women and Irish immigrant women.

Dr. Phillips-Cunningham also delivered a book talk moderated by Dr. Naomi Williams of the School of Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers University. The event was co-sponsored by Rutgers University’s School of Management and Labor Relations, Women Innovating Labor Leadership, Centers for Women and Work and Innovation in Worker Organization, and Spelman College’s Social Justice Fellows Program.

After the talk, Dr. Phillips-Cunningham engaged in a public conversation about the future of labor leadership with the directors of the centers and students at Rutgers University and Spelman College.
