Hagen publishes article on post-apocalyptic novel
TWU assistant professor Damien Hagen, PhD, penned an article for the spring special issue of Transgender Studies Quarterly.
Hagen's article, "A Loving and Horrible Rage: t4t Love Praxis and Trans Rage in Gretchen Felker‐Martin's Manhunt," looks at Felker-Martin's 2022 horror novel as a work of trans speculative fiction that explores themes of anger and trans-for-trans love as powerful motivators toward resisting harmful ideas and practicing mutual care. Hagen argues that the novel uses science fiction to theorize and challenge numerous practices and beliefs — such as anti-trans feminism, the belief that biology alone defines gender, and infighting within marginalized communities — that interfere with the survival and thriving of trans people.
