Maria Elena A. Flood of El Paso, project director of the Texas Tech Area Health Education Center and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, chaired the Investment, Finance and Programs committees for the Texas State Board of Education. She was a member of the Board of Trustees of Hotel Dieu Medical Center in El Paso and is assistant professor in the Department of Health Organization Management at the Texas Tech School of Medicine.

Since 1982, she served on the Advisory Council of the University of Texas’ School of Social Work Foundation in Austin. Mrs. Flood also served on the board of KCOS-TV, El Paso’s public television station since 1979.

In 1985, Mrs. Flood received the Maestro Award for Texas Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages.

She reared eight children before attending the University of Texas at El Paso.
