Patrick Bynane, PhD
Professor of Theatre, Graduate Advisor
Patrick Bynane has been a part of the TWU Theatre Program since 2006. He received his PhD in Theatre History and Criticism with a minor in Performance Studies from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Prior to that he received his MA in Theatre with a minor in English from Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State University). His BA is in Theatre from Ashland University in Ohio. From 2006 to 2015 he led the MA in Theatre program at TWU. From 2012 to 2024, he served as program director. As of 2024 he is thrilled to return to running the graduate program in theatre and full-time teaching. Bynane has been active as a scholar and creative artist. He has been published in Theatre Symposium and is on the editorial board of Ecumenica, the journal of theatre and religion. He is a member of Actor’s Equity and has been seen at theatres across the D/FW metroplex. He directs frequently for the Theatre Program and is particularly proud of the work he has created with students that has been produced internationally at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Brighton Fringe Festival. He is a native of the Cleveland area.
