Tickets on sale for TWU theatre world premiere

A young actor putting on a crown

Nov. 1, 2022 – DENTON – Tickets are on sale for The Children of the Queen's Writ, a world premiere play that is the second production of Texas Woman's University's division of theatre's 2022-23 season.

Written by TWU associate professor Steven Young and directed by Patrick Bynane, PhD, the play examines the impact of an obscure 16th-century law that permitted the abduction of juveniles for the elite Chapel Choir of St. Paul's, which became the justification for the trafficking of boys in Elizabethan theatre. It tells the story of young Thomas Clifton, plucked from the streets of London, beaten and forced to perform on the London stage.

Though set in Elizabethan England, The Children of the Queen’s Writ probes the fine line between exploitation and entertainment and the role we may play in blurring that line.
