CARE offers resources for student parents, addresses food needs

September 3, 2021 — Denton — The Campus Alliance for Resource Education (CARE) team will host several important events in the upcoming weeks for student parents and those experiencing food insecurity.

The Fall Fair for Students who are Parents, scheduled for Wednesday, September 8, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Southwest Ballroom in the Student Union at Hubbard Hall, will offer an opportunity for student parents to learn more about available resources for families and will provide a chance to connect with other student parents.

Occurring concurrently on the same day and time as the Fall Fair for Students who are Parents, Minerva’s Market, a free on-campus food pantry located in the Student Union at Hubbard Hall, room 1203, will host its official grand opening. Students are encouraged to stop by to see what is available, sign up to volunteer or donate items.

Additionally, on September 15, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., CARE will host the first Mobile Food Pantry of the Fall 2021 semester near Jones Hall. The mobile food truck, a partnership with the Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB), is open to students, faculty, staff and community members.

TAFB follows the USDA’s guidelines for eligibility but will not turn away anyone in need. Plan to park in the Jones Hall East Parking Lot. Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to bring coolers and ice packs to keep produce fresh, particularly students who may be in afternoon or evening classes, as well as their own bags if possible. However, some plastic grocery sacks will be available if needed.

For more information, contact the CARE Office at 940-898-2789.
