SHTEAM Punks

OSCI works alongside SHTEAM Punks to host interactive events for K-12 students at TWU. SHTEAM Punks is a cross-disciplinary faculty collaborative at Texas Woman’s University dedicated to breaking down the traditional silos between the Science, Humanities, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (SHTEAM) fields. Our goal is to create innovative projects that connect the university with the broader community. These initiatives range from developing new, hands-on K-12 outreach programs to designing forward-thinking academic minors and certificates. Our inaugural flagship project is to establish TWU as a community support hub for local Destination Imagination (DI) teams, providing mentorship and resources for young innovators.

OSCI and SHTEAM Punks have had 3 events since its inception: 

• SHTEAM Punk-Ins - Halloween STEM event held on TWU's ACT Lawn in October 2025.
• Shtink Shtank Punk - Holiday-themed STEM stations held in ACT Lobby in December 2025.
• Full Shteam Ahead - Summer Splash-Down event to kick off summer for Denton ISD students in the ASSC in May 2026.

Women & Girls in STEM Week

To celebrate the International Women & Girls in Science day, observed annually on February 11th, OSCI hosts events for the entire week dedicated to celebrating women and girls in STEM fields. To finish out the week, OSCI has the Loving Science Celebration, a Valentines Day-themed event with self care stations, history lessons on famous women in STEM, and a photo booth. Attendees were asked to write answers to questions about their favorite women in STEM and where their interests in STEM began.
