Programs

The TWU Master of Social Work degree program offers two programs of study:

Generalist Program (60 credits)

Those with a bachelor’s degree other than a BSW from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning or those with a BSW degree from a program that is not accredited by the CSWE are eligible to apply to the MSW and, if admitted, will be considered Generalist-level students. Students who have no completed course of study in social work must complete a 60-hour program. The first 30 hours of credits are the Generalist curriculum year and consist of enhanced coursework typically found in accredited BSW programs.  After the Generalist year, students will complete an advanced generalist curriculum or “Advanced Year” for the last 30 hours of the program. The 60 hours may be completed on a full-time (two years) or part-time (four years) basis.

Advanced Standing Program (30 credits)

Graduates of CSWE-accredited BSW programs who have matriculated in the last seven years are often eligible to apply to the MSW with Advanced Standing status and enter directly into the Advanced Year. Advanced standing applicants who graduated seven years or more ago may be required, due to changes and advances in the field, to take additional BSW coursework before moving to the advanced year. BSW practitioners who have been continuously licensed and actively working in the field for more than seven years may, on a case-by-case basis, be admitted directly into the Advanced Year. Advanced Standing students may complete the MSW program in 30 semester credit hours. The 30 hours may be completed on a full-time (one year) or part-time (two years) basis.
