July 8, 2025 — DENTON — The Master of Library Science (MLS) program in the School of Library and Information Studies at Texas Woman’s University gained continued accreditation status from the American Library Association.

The program went through an extensive process that included a self-study, an external review panel site visit and report, and a meeting with ALA’s Committee on Accreditation.

“I am incredibly happy and appreciative that SLIS’s MLS program has been granted continued accreditation status,” said SLIS Director Gretchen Hoffman, PhD. “SLIS faculty and staff have worked diligently to ensure that the MLS program meets the highest professional standards in library and information studies. We’re excited to continue to offer this excellent program that focuses on serving people and communities in Texas and beyond.”

Continued accreditation status from the ALA Committee on Accreditation is essential to the success of the MLS program at TWU. With it, SLIS can continue to offer its high-quality master’s program, and students can continue to graduate with needed credentials for careers as librarians and information professionals.

“Employers can be assured that TWU SLIS graduates have the current knowledge and skills needed to work in libraries, schools, universities, and other information-focused organizations,” Hoffman added.

With this continued accreditation, the MLS program at TWU is accredited through spring 2032.
