SLIS announces 2022 alumni awards

June Johnson, Delaney Daly, and Amber Wessies earned alumni awards.

May 3, 2022 — DENTON — The School of Library and Information Studies celebrated its alumni at the annual Texas Library Association Conference last week. This year, June Johnson (2012), Delaney Daly (2020), and Amber Wessies (2019) were recognized with alumni awards.

Johnson received the $1,000 Ann Barnett Service Award. Currently a circulation librarian at Texas Wesleyan University, Johnson chaired the TLA Black Caucus Roundtable at TLA 2022, just one example of her active service to TLA for more than a decade.

“I am very passionate about sharing my experience as an online graduate student. I felt part of an in-person classroom setting although it was online,” said Johnson. “Every opportunity I share with young people encouraging them to become librarians and attend my alma mater, I get excited.”

Daly and Wessies were recipients of the $500 S. Janice Kee Continuing Education Awards. Delaney, a children’s librarian and children’s department supervisor at Coeur d’Alene Public Library in Idaho, plans to attend the 2022 ALSC National Institute (Association for Library Services to Children) in Kansas City, Mo.

Wessies, an instruction librarian at Union University in Tennessee, is going to put the award money towards attending the Association of Christian Librarians annual conference in Wichita, Kan.
